JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida's Kamrin Oriol and Lipscomb's Mateo Esmeraldo earned this week’s Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Men’s Basketball honors, announced Monday by the league office.
Oriol claimed Player of the Week honors after back-to-back 30-point performances in Osprey wins. He scored 32 points, including the game-winning bucket with 2.2 seconds to play, in North Florida's 87-85 win against Eastern Kentucky to start the week. Oriol then recorded career-bests of 33 points and 15 assists on Saturday in an 117-114 overtime win against Bellarmine, marking the first 30-15 game in the country this year and the most assists by an ASUN student-athlete in more than two years. He finished the week averaging 32.5 points, 9.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 65 percent (22-of-34) from the floor and 46 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range.
Esmeraldo took Newcomer of the Week. He averaged 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a pair of Lipscomb wins. Esmeraldo was 5-of-9 (56%) from the floor, 3-of-4 (75%) from beyond the arc and sank all seven of his free throw attempts.
