JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Stetson's Cameron Thomas, Queens' Brenae Jones-Grant and Lipscomb's Hope Counts claimed this week's Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Women's Basketball honors, announced Monday by the league office.
Thomas shined for Stetson at UCF, dropping a career-high 35 points in the 70-67 win to earn Player of the Week honors. She set the tone early for the Hatters, putting up 14 of their first 18 points to start the game. Thomas finished the night 12-of-20 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, on her way to the fifth best single-game scoring output in program history. She also chipped in with five rebounds and three assists.
Jones-Grant took Newcomer of the Week honors after an impressive performance in Queens' win at Western Carolina. She recorded her third double-double of the season, finishing with 27 points and 11 rebounds. She went 10-of-18 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three. Defensively, Jones-Grant set the tone for the Royals with three steals and one block.
Counts had a solid week for Lipscomb, averaging 7.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.7 blocks per game. Her best performance came in a win over Tennessee State, when she finished just one point shy of a triple-double with nine points, 10 rebounds and a school-record 11 blocked shots.
