Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards - April 1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Austin Peay, EKU, Jacksonville, North Florida and Queens claimed this week's Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Outdoor Track and Field weekly honors, announced Wednesday by the league office. 

The Osprey’s Rey Hernandez earned Track Performer of the Week when he helped North Florida to a medal in the men’s 4x100m relay as the second leg of the race for a new program record of 40.08. Hernandez also broke the program’s 110m hurdles record with a 14.17 time.

EKU’s Matt See took first place and Field Performer of the Week in the shot put at the Jim Vargo Invitational with a throw of 16.45 meters. Jakob Nützel of Queens also claimed Field Performer of the Week en route to the top spot in the discus at the Raleigh Relays where he won with a throw of 55.15 meters.

Queens’ Oliver Cooper claimed his second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor with a 15th overall finish in the 800m with a time of 1:50.42 at the Raleigh Relays.

Jacksonville’s Mariandree Chacon grabbed Track Performer of the Week after she finished ninth in the 100m dash (11.49) and 11th in the 200m dash (23.69) at the UCF Knight Invite. She was also part of the 4x100 relay team that finished fifth with a 45.49 finish.

Ma’Kala Davis from Jacksonville claimed Field Performer of the Week after getting first place in the triple jump (12.78m) and third place in the long jump (5.99m) at the UCF Knight Invite.

EKU’s Brighter Jepchumba took home this week’s Freshman of the Week after she ran the second-fastest 10,000m time by a Colonel at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 32:40.65 and an eighth place finish.
