JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Austin Peay, EKU, Lipscomb and West Georgia claimed this week's Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Indoor Track and Field weekly honors, announced Wednesday by the league office.
West Georgia's Gavin Barlow earned Track Athlete of Week. He qualified in the preliminaries of the 60M with a 6.83 and went on to earn a third place finish in the finals. His 6.74 mark broke the Wolves previous record, also set by the Lagrange, Ga., native. EKU's Mathew See took first place in the shot put to earn Field Athlete of the Week. See's 16.38M throw moved him into second all-time in EKU history. Fellow Colonel, Brian Kimutai earned the Freshman of the Week honor. Kimutai took first place in the mile at the Centre Indoor Invite with a time of 4:12.93.
EKU's Edna Chelulei was named Track Performer of the Week after recording the 10th-fastest time in NCAA history in the Women's 5k. Her time of 15:05.16 earned her a first place finish at the Husky Classic and marked the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this season. Amani Sharif claimed a win in the long jump for the Govs to earn Field Performer of the Week. She recorded a 6.02M jump at the Bulldog Open to earn the besk mark in the conference this season. Lipscomb's Savannah Neutzel earned Freshman of the Week. She recorded a time of 56.43 in the 400M. Her performance marked a program best for the Bisons.
