JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida and Stetson earned Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Men's Tennis Semifinal victories to clinch a spot in the championship final on Saturday morning.
#1 North Florida 4, #5 FGCU 1
North Florida secured a 4-1 victory over FGCU to claim a spot in the Championship Final. The top-seeded Ospreys claimed the Doubles point with 6-1 wins on Courts 1 and 3, setting an early tone for the match. In Singles play, UNF earned decisive points from Andreas Scott, Breno Marques, and Aron Major to clinch the overall win. While Pablo Paternostro earned a point for the third-seeded Eagles on Court 2, it wasn't enough to halt the Ospreys' momentum. North Florida looks to capture its fourth tournament title in program history.
#3 Stetson 4, #2 North Alabama 3
The third-seeded Stetson Hatters edged out second-seeded North Alabama with a 4-3 victory. Stetson secured the initial momentum by winning the doubles point with victories on Courts 1 and 3. The match came down to the wire in Singles play, where Alexandre Verlaguet clinched the deciding point for the Hatters in a three-set battle at the top position. While the Lions fought back with Singles wins from Alberto Altur, Samuel Balfour, and Satoru Nakajima, Stetson’s ultimatley clinch Courts 3 and 4 for the win. Stetson's victory secures a spot in the championship final for the second consecutive year. Stetson looks to earn its first tournament title in Hatters history when they take on the top-seeded North Florida Ospreys on Saturday.
