JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FGCU swept this week's Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Women's Cross Country honors, while FGCU and North Florida split on the Men's side, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Ozia Trujillo earned the Women's Runner of the Week honor after placing fourth in the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational with a 17:07.7 mark. The junior broke the program's previous Women's 5K record by 10 seconds (17:17.2). Loudonville, Ohio, native Tess Shultz claimed the Women's Freshman of the Week after clocking a time of 18:14.5 to 14th place. Shultz finished ahead of runners from South Florida and UCF, helping the Eagles earn a fourth-place team finish.
Siyabonga Mokgothu was named the Men's Runner of the Week after earning second-place in the 8K at the Florida Intercollegiate Invitational which was hosted by UNF. The junior crossed the finish line in 24:46.5, which marks the eighth-fastest time in program history. The Ospreys' Alejandro Romagosa earned the Men's Freshman of the Week honor after his performance at the same meet. He placed 18th overall (25:24.9), besting competitors from Florida, and Florida State, as well as fellow conference opponents, FGCU and Stetson.
