JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first time in Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Lacrosse history, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers claimed the championship title. The second-seeded Chanticleers defeated the top-seeded Jacksonville Dolphins in a thrilling 10-9 victory to earn the program's first title.
The Chants scored the first goal of the day as Sydney McClure found the the back of the net. Jacksonville's Ainsley Scruggs answered shortly after with a goal of her own to put the Dolphins on the board. Coastal went on to score the next three points and ended the first with a 4-1 lead.
Jacksonville scored three unanswered in the first four minutes of the second quarter to tie the game at four goals a piece. The Chants would go on to score once more before the Dolphins' Jenna Peed found the back of the net to end the half in a tie.
Jacksonville's Hudson Gentile gave the Dolphins their first and only lead of the game to begin the third quarter. A trio of Chants earned the next three points as Avery McIlwaine, Evelyn Kitchin and Alyson Mascolo each notched a goal in the third quarter.
Monica Manley scored the first two goals in the fourth to put the Chanticleers up 10-7 and lock up the victory for the Chants.
