ATLANTA - Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville and Queens combined to earn superlative recognitions and highlight the 2024 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Lacrosse postseason honors, announced Wednesday by the league office.
For the first time in program history, the ASUN Player of the Year hails from Queens as Kayleen Favreau claimed this year's honor. She leads the Royals in goals and points with 25 of her 59 goals this season coming in conference play. The Holly Springs, N.C., native ranks in the top 15 in the nation for goals and scored game-winners against Canisius, Duquesne, Kennesaw State and Liberty. After accumulating 29 goals, 20 ground balls, winning 23 draw controls and causing 12 turnovers, Coastal Carolina's Avery McIlwaine won her second consecutive Midfielder of the Year honor. This season she crossed the milestone of 100 career points, draw controls and goals.
Jacksonville's Kaila Stasulli, the Defensive Player of the Year, leads the Dolphins in ground balls and ranks second on the team in draw controls. As a team, Jacksonville ranks 11th in the nation for draw control percentage. Conference highs for the Maryland native were four ground balls against Queens and seven draw controls against Liberty. In her first season in Conway, Freshman of the Year Evelyn Kitchin appeared in 16 of Coastal Carolina's 17 regular-season games. She started 11 times, scoring 10 goals and causing five turnovers. The Chanticleers enter the ASUN Championship as the tournament's #2 seed following a 12-5 season under the guidance of ASUN Coach of the Year Rachel Shuck Whitten. Coastal recorded a 5-1 record in conference action and was 8-1 on its home field inside Brooks Stadium.
