2026 Baseball Postseason Honors Announced

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - FGCU, Jacksonville and North Florida highlight the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Baseball postseason honors, announced Monday by the league office.

The Eagles' Jon Embury was named Player of the Year as he enters the postseason leading the ASUN in several categories including hits per game, RBI, and homeruns. The sophomore recorded 20 runners caught stealing this season which leads the leauge by seven and notched a season batting average of .379 which ranks in the top-10 in FGCU history for a single season. 

Fellow Eagle, Evan Dempsey was named Pitcher of the Year. Dempsey  recorded 116 strikeouts this season, 82 of which came in conference play and ranks fourth nationally. He capped off the final week of the regular season in spectacular fashion against Jacksonville, tossing six innings with 10 strikeouts to earn his sixth win of the year on the mound. It marked the fourth time this year that the junior has recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game. Dempsey has also received national recognition for his performances on the mound as he is a semifinalst for both the Golden Spikes Awad and the Dick Howser Trophy. 

Jacksonville's Sammy Mummau was named Defensive Player of the Year. Mummau started 51 games for the Dolphins this season and closed the regular season out with 199 chances, 130 assists, and 68 putouts while turning 17 double plays at shortstop. 

North Florida's Joe Mercadante was named Coach of the Year after leading the Ospreys to the most single season wins at North Florida since 2017 (31) and most single season conference wins in UNF progam history (22). Under his guidance, the Ospreys earned the top-seed in the conference tournament for the first time ever.
