North Florida Defeats FGCU to Earn Eleventh Tournament Title in Program History

FORT MYERS, Fla., - North Florida continued its historic, undefeated season on Saturday evening, improving to a nation-best 25-0 with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over FGCU at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

#1 North Florida 4, #3 FGCU 2
Despite dropping the doubles point, the Ospreys won the Singles courts to secure the win in a match that lasted over three and a half hours. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead by claiming the Doubles point. FGCU’s Nora Svensson and June Bjork took the opening match 6-1 on Court 1. While UNF’s Gabby Goyins and Jasmin Makela responded with a 6-2 win on Court 3, FGCU secured the point on Court 2 as Cecilie Maeland and Anjali Kotecha defeated Aryana Bartlett and Anslee Long 6-3. The Ospreys regained momentum in Singles action, fueled by a  performance at the bottom of the lineup. Anslee Long provided a quick spark for UNF on Court 6, defeating Anjali Kotecha 6-3, 6-2, followed closely by Gabby Goyins, who secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sabrina Jaramillo at the No. 5 spot. While FGCU’s Cecilie Maeland managed to pull back a point with a three-set win over May Fadida on Court 4 (6-4, 2-6, 6-2), North Florida’s depth proved too much to handle. Isabel Oliveira battled back from a set down at No. 2 to defeat June Bjork 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, and Aryana Bartlett ultimately clinched the dual on Court 3 by grinding out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win against Ashley Matz. The top-flight match between Nora Svensson and Laurie Barendse was left unfinished in the third set once the team victory was secured.
