JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida and FGCU captured the superlative recognitions to highlight the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis postseason honors, announced Monday by the league office.
North Florida's Laurie Barendse was named Player of the Year. Barendse posted a 15-4 record this season playing on the top flight in singles and a 14-4 doubles record, also on court one. The Netherlands native has several notable wins this season including FAU, USF, Lipscomb, UNA and FGCU. Barendse and her partner, Isabel Oliveira, earned the Doubles Pair of the Year accolade. The duo posted a 13-1 record together on the top flight. Their 13 wins together were tied for the most in the ASUN this season. FGCU's Sabrina Jaramillo earned the Freshman of the Year honor. Jaramillo posted a 19-8 record in singles play and a 13-7 record in doubles. She claimed the deciding point in the Eagles victory over then-ranked No. 75 ETSU, marking the program's first win over a ranked opponent in its history. Key victories from the Orlando, Fla., native's season include Colorado, ETSU, Furman and FAU.
North Florida's Catherine Dunagan was named Coach of the Year. Dunagan led the Ospreys to an undefeated 21-0 season. Under her guidance, UNF became the last undefeated Division I women’s tennis program in the nation at 17-0 with a win against North Alabama on March 22. This season, Dunagan surpassed 100-career wins in just seven seasons at the helm and claimed notable wins over FAU, USF, FIU, Troy, South Alabama, Colorado State, Air Force and Davidson.
