JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - FGCU's Dolly Cairns was tabbed the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Thursday by the league office, joining seven other student-athletes on the Academic All-ASUN Team.
Cairns holds a 3.94 GPA as she pursues her MS for Health Science. Across her 27 starts this season, the fifth-year senior has made a team-best 57 three-pointers. She is shooting 46% from behind the arc which ranks eighth in the nation. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native averages 8.8 points per game and has scored in double figures 13 times, seven of which came during ASUN play.
The Academic All-ASUN Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom and exemplify the ASUN's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
