ATLANTA - Atlantic Sun Conference programs Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, FGCU, Jacksonville and Stetson all earned superlative awards to headline the 2023-24 All-ASUN Women's Basketball postseason honors announced Thursday.
FGCU's Emani Jefferson made league history as the first individual to be named the ASUN Player, Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Year. The junior from Miami, Fla., averages 16.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game entering the conference tournament. A semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Mid Major Player of the Year Award, she leads the ASUN in shooting percentage at 54.8 while reaching double figures in 19 games this season with a season-high of 27 at Lipscomb. She helped the Eagles earn a perfect 16-0 league mark while extending their home win streak to 29 inside Alico Arena.
Jacksonville's Edyn Battle was also named the Newcomer of the Year after earning the Newcomer or the Week honor twice this season. She is currently leading the league in scoring at 19.8 points per game. The junior guard started 27 of 29 games for the Dolphins and played a total of 989 minutes (most in the ASUN) and was able to maintain a 42.4 field goal percentage. The Ohio native led JAX in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals while shooting 71.4% from the charity stripe.
Sixth Player of the Year Kinley Fisher averaged 12.0 points per game during the regular season for Central Arkansas. The Greenwood, Ark., native scored double-digits in 17 games, with four games of 20-plus points. Her two highest-scoring games this season were against conference opponents, with a career-high 24 points against North Alabama
La'Nya Foster, who averages 8.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Govs, was tabbed 2024 Freshman of the Year. The Riverdale, Ga., native was a three-time ASUN Freshman of the Week recipient and played in all 30 games for Austin Peay earning 14 starts. She had a career-high 24 points at Bellarmine, going 10-for-16 from the field and 2-for-3 from long range.
After leading Stetson to the #2 seed in the conference tourney, Lynn Bria was awarded the ASUN Coach of the Year accolade. This year's squad went 17-13 in the regular season with a 12-4 mark in conference play. The Hatters started the season with a 5-9 record before conference play started which saw Stetson post a 7-1 record on the road during ASUN action.
