EKU's Jaziri Joins Liberty's Nedrick & Sauder in Claiming Men's Outdoor #ASUNTF Championship Honors


ATLANTA, Ga. - Eastern Kentucky's Ahmed Jaziri joined Liberty's Kevin Nedrick and Kennedy Sauder in claiming the final set of awards from the ASUN Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, announced Friday by the league office.

At the championship, Nedrick was named the Most Valuable Performer while Flames' Head Coach Lance Bingham was tabbed the Coach of the Year as he led Liberty to its third consecutive title. Jaziri was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer becoming the first-ever individual from EKU to earn the accolade while Nedrick earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer and Sauder garnered the Most Outstanding Freshman accolade.

Jaziri won both the 1,500m and the 5,000m at the championship to record a total of 20 points for Eastern Kentucky. The Most Outstanding Track performer clocked a time of 3:45.27 in the 1,500m which was the third-fastest time in Eastern Kentucky program history. 

Nedrick, the Most Outstanding Field Performer, secured gold medals in the Discus and Shot Put at the championship while also claiming third place in the Javelin. He set a new conference championship meet record with his mark of 58.36m in the Discus event while his toss of 18.36m in the Shot Put marked a new personal best. The Westmoreland, Jamaica, native earned a mark of 61.50m in the Javelin for the first time in three years of competing in the event. 

After winning the ASUN Indoor Most Outstanding Freshman performer, Liberty's Sauder garnered the Outdoor distinction after his gold medal performance at the conference championship. Sauder cleared a mark of 2.14m which was the best by a student-athlete at the ASUN Championship in six years. His performance in the event is tied for fifth in the nation this season.
