LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sophomore midfielder Nick Harshaw scored in the second half as the Bellarmine University men's soccer team defeated Northern Kentucky 1-0 on Tuesday night in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Bellarmine (2-2-2) played at home for only the second time this season, as four of the Knights' first five games were road contests. BU moved to 2-0 in Frazier Stadium after topping the Norse (2-2-1).
Harshaw netted the lone goal of the matchup in the 74th minute. After he executed a give-and-go with sophomore forward Johan Nissen-Lie near the top of the box, an NKU defender attempted to poke the ball away, but it deflected forward off Harshaw's leg and freed him up for an open look from 8 yards, which he slotted into the net for his first goal of the year.
Bellarmine's defense was stout throughout, and matters were helped further in the second half when a Northern Kentucky player was issued a red card in the 62nd minute. The Knights stayed buckled in defensively with the Norse a man down while recording their first shutout of the season.
Bellarmine finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots, although they were at three apiece on goal, and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Peter Van Euwen collected three saves and his fourth career clean sheet with the Knights.
Bellarmine will host Chicago State at 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
