Queens Captures ASUN MSOC Weekly Honors

ATLANTA – The Royals' Mario Goic (Player), Samuel Idinge (Defensive), and Javier Izquierdo-Cuervo (Goalkeeper) were awarded their respective honors on Tuesday afternoon following the league office's announcement of the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Soccer weekly honors.


Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Mario Goic, Queens
Senior | Forward | Croatia, Zadar
- First Career ASUN Player of the Week honor; second overall accolade as a program for Queens
- Set up the Royals' first goal of the season on a beautiful ball from a corner kick for his second career assist
- Goic netted his fifth career goal on a 25-yard set piece from the top of the box into the top right corner of the net
- On defense, the veteran helped the Royals turn in their first clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 victory against Winthrop
- Queens returns to the field on Friday, Sept. 1 against UNC Asheville and looks to remain undefeated at home

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Samuel Idinge, Queens

Junior | Defender | St. Petersburg, Fla.
- Second Career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week award; second overall accolade as a program for Queens
- Playing in all 90 minutes for the Royals, Idinge earned two points and the game-winning shot
- Got the Royals' second Division 1 season underway with a goal in the 15th minute against Winthrop 
- Had a strong defensive performance to keep the Eagles scoreless
- Idinge made multiple tackles in critical situations to halt a Winthrop scoring opportunity

Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week
Javier Izquierdo-Cuervo, Queens
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Gijon, Spain 

- Second Career ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week selection; third award in Queens program history
- Helped the Royals kick off their 2023 season with a convincing 2-0 shutout against the Eagles
- Izquierdo-Cuervo played a significant role in that clean sheet as the sophomore faced 10 shots and recorded four saves
- The clean sheet was his second career shutout
- Leads the conference in saves and shutouts after one week of play
