#2 Bellarmine Advances to ASUN Championship Final

LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Bellarmine Knights advanced to the Atlantic Sun Championship Final after a late goal in regulation forced overtime. In the 105th minute, Brendan Schoemehl scored a penalty kick to give the Knights a 3-2 double overtime victory.

Stetson scored early in the first 45 minutes of action as Afonso Conde found the back of the net in the third minute of play. The Hatters extended their lead with a 28th-minute goal from Alvaro Gabancho to put themselves ahead 2-0. With five minutes left in the half, Bellarmine’s Alex Halevy netted the ball into the bottom left corner, cutting the deficit in half heading into the break.

In the second half, it took until the 83rd minute of action for the Knights to tie the match off a shot from Schoemehl. Despite the equalizer from the Knights, Stetson outshot BU 13-6 and had two saves compared to one from the Knights' keeper. The full 90 minutes of action were not enough time for either team to gain an advantage and the match went into overtime.

It took two overtimes for a ball to get netted but Schoemehl came through again for the Knights, sending his squad to the ASUN Championship Final with a game-winning PK. Bellarmine faces Lipscomb on Saturday in Nashville hoping to capture the program's first conference title.
