DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson women's basketball erased a 12-point deficit and surged past Stonehill, 71–65, on Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center to close the Holiday Hoops Classic.
The Hatters (7-3) trailed by as many as 12 points late in the third quarter before locking in defensively and outscoring the Skyhawks 17–8 in the fourth. Stetson ended the game on a 12–0 run, holding Stonehill to just two field goals in the final period.
Stetson took control early behind perimeter shooting, opening the game with four three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 20–15 lead. Cameron Thomas knocked down a pair of triples, while Rose Caso added another from deep to help set the tone.
Stonehill responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Hatters 24–10 to grab a 39–30 halftime advantage. The Skyhawks used a strong interior presence and second-chance opportunities to flip the momentum heading into the break.
The Hatters clawed back in the third quarter, trimming the deficit with a 7–0 run midway through the frame. Mary McMillan converted a basket during the stretch to pull Stetson within two, but Stonehill maintained a slim 57–54 lead entering the fourth.
Stetson took over defensively in the final quarter. Thomas connected on two clutch three-pointers to spark the comeback, and McMillan gave the Hatters their first lead of the half with a layup at the 1:46 mark. Aleah Sorrentino sealed the win at the free-throw line as Stetson closed the game on a decisive run.
Thomas finished with a game-high 32 points, including seven three-pointers, while Sorrentino and McMillan each added 12 points as Stetson earned its seventh win of the season.
Stetson returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 28, when the Hatters travel to Coral Gables to take on Miami at the Watsco Center. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
