Dolphins Dominate Panthers In Home Win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville completed a perfect opening week of the season, downing the Florida Tech Panthers 75-47 Thursday Night in Swisher Gymnasium. The Dolphins previously defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in the season opener, 86-84.

JU was led by freshman Tatum Brown. The Loganville, Georgia, product scored 16 points on a clean 6-10 shooting day. She added six steals for the second-consecutive game.

Jacksonville was in cruise control early taking a 12-5 lead at the first media timeout. The Panthers responded to take the first quarter lead, 17-14. The struggles stopped there for the Dolphins.

In the second quarter, JU outscored FIT 23-8 to take an 11-point lead at the break. From that point on, it was all Dolphins. Jacksonville won the third quarter 20-11, with Mychal White, Carmaya Bowman and Priscilla Williams adding to the tally.

A convincing fourth quarter followed, with the Dolphins hitting seven shots in the final period to outscore the Panthers 19-11 in the final period to end with a 75-47 win.

  • The Dolphins had three players in double figures. This is the second-consecutive game with three or more double-digit scorers.
  • Williams finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, her second double-double in as many games.
  • Bowman finished with 15 points, one shy of her career high.

  • The Dolphins have scored at least 75 points in back-to-back games for the third time under head coach Special Jennings.
Coach's Comments
"I'm super excited about this group," Jennings said. "They come in, they're ready to play and they play for each other. We're gelling right now and we're making shots, and hopefully we can continue that and keep that up. I know it's early, but I'm proud of the ladies."

The Dolphins will hit the road for the first of four power conference matchups this fall. Jacksonville will battle the Florida Gators Monday, Nov. 10 in Gainesville. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM and the game will be streamed on SECN+.
