Stetson Ranks First in Women's Tennis Preseason Poll



JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Stetson Hatters, the defending Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Champions, claimed the top spot in the preseason coaches poll, announced Wednesday by the league office. 
 
The Hatters tallied 93 points in the poll and earned six of 10 first-place votes ahead of their season opener on Jan. 18 at home against Embry-Riddle. The Lipscomb Bisons tallied two first place votes and earned 78 points, sharing second place with North Florida who also earned 78 points. FGCU tabbed one first place vote, earning 70 points followed by Austin Peay who earned fifth with 59 points to round out the top of the rankings. 
 
The regular season begins Thursday with EKU on the road against Western Kentucky. Other teams in action opening weekend are FGCU (MTSU) and Stetson (Embry-Riddle) who are both at home. Queens (Clemson), Bellarmine (Mississippi State), North Alabama (Auburn), Central Arkansas (Oral Roberts) and North Florida (No. 19 Florida) start the season on the road. Conference play begins on March 1 when the Hatters host the Knights with all 10 teams picking up competition over the following weeks leading to the ASUN Championship on April 17-19 on the campus of North Florida.
