ATLANTA - On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Atlantic Sun Conference inducts its Hall of Fame Class of 2024 at One Ocean Resort in Jacksonville, Fla. The newest inductees are five individuals that left an incredible mark on both their universities and the league. The class of Stetson's Pete Dunn, Kennesaw State's Scott Whitlock, FGCU's Courtney Platt, Jacksonville's Marit Foss, and Lipscomb's Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon join the other 36 individuals which comprise the conference's previous eight classes.
Pete Dunn
Stetson | 1978-2016 (Baseball Head Coach)
Pete Dunn led the Stetson Baseball program to great success on the field, helping guide the Hatters to 1,312 victories over the span of 37 years in the dugout. Coaching Baseball is all Dunn
ever really wanted to do, and even though he is much more than just a coach, Dunn's squads averaged 35.4 wins a season during his tenure and made 17 NCAA Regional Tournament appearances. He helped Stetson to nine Atlantic Sun Conference titles and was named Coach of the Year on an ASUN-record six occasions (1988-90, '96, 2007 and 2011). A total of 84 student-athletes who played for Dunn went on to play professional baseball. Five of those players were drafted in the first four rounds of the MLB Amateur Draft and nine have reached the Major Leagues. In January of 2014, the Stetson legend was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the ABCA Convention in Dallas.
Scott Whitlock
Kennesaw State | 1985-2021 (Softball Head Coach)
Scott Whitlock was with Kennesaw State from 1985-2021 where he became the 24th all-time coach in NCAA Softball history with 996 coaching victories and two NCAA Division II National Championships (1995, 1996). He was a part of the Owls' transition into the Atlantic Sun Conference where he helped the program win two ASUN Regular Season Championships while earning himself three ASUN Coach of the Year honors. During his tenure as the head of KSU's program, he totaled 51 All-Americans, 13 Regional Crowns, two ASUN Players of the Year, one ASUN Pitcher of the Year and one ASUN Freshman of the Year. He has earned several honors such as the Hall of Fame from National Fastpitch, the Peach Belt Conference and Georgia Dugout. He spent 36 total years at Kennesaw State University as coach and eventual senior associate athletics director.
Courtney Platt
FGCU | 2008-11 (Softball)
Courtney Platt ended her career atop the FGCU record book in walks (175) and doubles (49), is second in on-base percentage (.514), fourth in RBI (124) and fifth in home runs (25), slugging percentage (.602) and triples (9). She was named to the 2011 Easton All-America Third Team making her the second player during the Division I era of FGCU Softball to earn the accolade. As a senior, she led the Eagles and the conference in several offensive categories, topping the ASUN in batting average (.387), doubles (16), total bases (93) and walks (57). She closed out the season ranked sixth in the nation in walks per game (1.02) and was seventh in the in on-base percentage (.576). She was a four-time All-ASUN selection, a two-time NFCA All-Region pick, and a selection to the ASUN All-Decade Team (2011-20).
Marit Foss
Jacksonville | 1997-2000 (Women's Soccer)
Marit Foss was the offensive leader for the Jacksonville Dolphins from 1997-2000. She was twice named an NSCAA Regional Second Team All-America in 1998 and 2000 and earned Third Team All-America recognition from collegesoccer.com in 2000. She was a part of an ASUN Championship team that went 9-0 in the league as a senior in 2000. A three-time First Team All-ASUN performer (1998-2000), she is one of 15 players from active member institutions to achieve that accomplishment. She is also one of 15 players from active member institutions to be named an All-Conference performer four times with ther Second Team nod in 1997. Her name can be found multiple times in the ASUN record book as she tied for fourth all-time with three goals in a game, third all-time with 16 goals in a season and second all-time with 39 career goals. She is also the career leader in assists in a game (6), the all-time leader in assists (70), tied for third all-time with eight points in a single game and is the all-time leader in career points (148).
Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon
Lipscomb | 2009-12 (Softball)
Whitney Kiihnl-Hickmon is one of the most decorated players in ASUN history as she was named both the Player and Pitcher of the Year in 2010, the only player in league history to win both in the same season. She was also named Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2012) and Freshman of the Year (2009) while being a four-time All-ASUN selection. Her 12 Pitcher of the Week awards rank second in ASUN history while leading the Bisons to a 154-67 record (.697) in her career. She ranks in the top 10 of ASUN career records in seven categories including third in strikeouts (1,118), wins (93) and shutouts (40), fourth in innings pitched (876.0) and appearances (158), sixth in complete games (93) and seventh in games started (115). She helped guide the Bisons to their first-ever ASUN Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010 and led the team to three top-three finishes in the conference during her time. She is one of only eight players in league history to earn three All-Tournament Team nods and one of only three pitchers to record 1,000 career strikeouts.
