ATLANTA - Tuesday's Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Championship Quarterfinal action saw Austin Peay, Jacksonville, North Alabama and Stetson pick up wins to advance into the semifinal round.
#10 Jacksonville 67, #1 EKU 65
For the first time in ASUN Championship history, a #10 seed is heading to the semifinals after Jacksonville defeated top-seeded EKU in Richmond on Tuesday. The Colonels held a slight one-point edge at the halftime break thanks to a 7-0 run to close out the first 20 minutes of action. JAX led for over 14 minutes of the first half and shot 38% from three-point range. EKU found itself on the losing side of the contest despite outrebounding the Dolphins 38-36 and outscoring them in the paint 38-34. Jacksonville was boosted by 49 points from the duo of Bryce Workman (25) and Robert McCray V (24).
#2 Stetson 83, #8 Queens 71
After defeating #8 Queens on Tuesday, second-seeded Stetson is preparing to host an ASUN Championship Semifinal game for the first time in program history. The Hatters hosted the Royals in the first postseason matchup between the two squads. At the half, the home team had a two-point lead on the scoreboard thanks to a combined 21 points from Stephan Swenson (11) and Aubin Gateretse (10). Third Team All-ASUN selection AJ McKee had 15 points in the first half for Queens. Jalen Blackmon, a First Team All-ASUN selection, ended the game with 21 points which were tied with McKee for the most in the game.
#6 North Alabama 77, #3 Lipscomb 75
Thanks to a last-second buzzer beater from KJ Johnson, #6 North Alabama defeated #3 Lipscomb on Tuesday inside Allen Arena. After Owen McCormack tied the game at 75 with 4.3 seconds remaining, Johnson raced down the floor and connected on a runner to seal a victory for his team. UNA's defeat of the Bisons secured the Lions their first trip to the ASUN Championship Semifinals since 2021 when the team advanced to the tournament finale. Will Pruitt, a member of the All-ASUN Second Team, finished the game with 20 points. Five Lions scored in double figures led by 14 from Dallas Howell.
#4 Austin Peay 101, #5 North Florida 98 OT
The first ASUN Championship contest inside F&M Bank Arena ended with the Austin Peay Governors winning and advancing to the tournament semifinals. The fourth-seeded Govs defeated #5 North Florida in the second overtime contest between the two squads this season. APSU was led offensively by DeMarcus Sharp who finished the game with 35 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Nate Lliteras was the Ospreys' top scorer with 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor. The Govs dominated the paint in their victory by outscoring UNF 66-48 down low.
The 2024 ASUN Championship continues on Thursday with the semifinals. Stetson faces off against Jacksonville inside the Edmunds Center while Austin Peay hosts North Alabama. All of the tournament matchups are streamed live on ESPN+ except for the final which airs on ESPN2.
