Colonels Hit Four Home Runs to Complete Season Sweep of Morehead State

 


MOREHEAD, Ky. (ekusports.com)  EKU hit four home runs on its way to completing the season sweep of Morehead State with a 13-3 win on Wednesday in Morehead.

The Colonels won the first meeting between the in-state rivals 10-6 in Richmond on March 28. Logan Thomason wasted no time getting the Colonels (22-24) on the board, leading off the game with a home run over the wall in center field. An RBI double from Jalen Jones and a run-scoring single by Michael Goehrig in the second put the visitors on top 3-0. 

After the Eagles (27-17) closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom half of the second inning, Charlie Ludwick hit a two-run home run in the top of the third to push the lead back to three, 5-2. EKU manufactured a three-run fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead. Miguel Larreal scored on an error and Will King came home a on a fielder's choice.  Roderick Criss II drove in DJ Sullivan with a single up the middle.
 
Larreal finished 3-for-5 with two runs.  He came into the game hitting .404 with a .556 on-base percentage over his previous 13 games. Jones hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run seventh inning for the Colonels. It was his sixth in 2023 and gave EKU an 11-3 edge.  King sent a shot over the wall in center in the eight with a runner on. It was his eighth of the season.
 
Quinton Hall retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to end the game by run-rule. Criss had a 3-for-4 day with two runs and two RBIs. Jones had three RBIs on a double and a home run, and scored twice.  Ludwick was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  King scored three runs, walked twice and drove in two while going 1-for-3.
 
Roman Kuntz had two hits in four at bats and drove in a run for Morehead State.
 
The Colonels will hit the road for an ASUN Conference series this weekend at Queens University of Charlotte. The series opener is slated for Friday at 6 PM.
