LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Stetson Hatters advanced to the Atlantic Sun Championship Semifinals after an aggressive offensive performance that resulted in a 2-0 victory against #6 Jacksonville.
In the first 45 minutes of action, both teams remained scoreless after the teams combined for a total of 16 shots. The Dolphins totaled nine shots with seven coming from the Hatters. Both goalkeepers recorded a save apiece in the first half with Jacksonville's Andres Perez de Garcia getting off the final shot for JAX before heading into the break. The tally for total fouls (3), corner kicks (2) and goals (0) were even between the two squads entering the final 45 minutes of action.
The Hatters' offense took control in the second half when Stetson was able to score its first goal of the match. In the 76th minute, First Team All-ASUN selection Alvaro Gabancho scored off the assist from Charles Ahl, who earned a Second Team nod when the league's postseason honors were announced. Less than 10 minutes later, Afonso Conde, a member of the ASUN All-Freshman lineup, was able to run down an assist from Alessandro Gabbani to extend the Hatters' lead.
Stetson returns to the postseason's semifinal round for the first time since 2021 after falling in the first round last season. The squad that eliminated the Hatters from title contention is the same one they line up against on Monday when they face #2 Bellarmine at 7 PM.
