Kendrell Watkins was promoted to Associate Commissioner for Digital Strategies in December of 2021 after joining the Atlantic Sun Conference in September of 2018 as its Director of Social Media.
Watkins’ primary duties include creating strategy, calendar and content while overseeing all social media platforms. He will also assist in content management and the development of brand awareness through the generation of online engagement.
Watkins came to the ASUN Conference from Florida A&M University where he served as the Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement. While at the university he was tasked with implementing and executing the marketing strategies of all the school’s sports programs. Watkins also was also tasked with producing all game day scripts for football, men and women’s basketball, baseball and softball.
In just two years at the institution, Watkins would lead efforts to increase engagement by 219% across all social media platforms. He would also help the athletic department become nationally recognized in 2017 as a Top 25 FCS program in visual communication.
Prior to his time at Florida A&M, Watkins worked as a camera operator during ESPNU broadcasts for Digital Wave Productions. Covering men’s basketball games for the University of Central Florida, Watkins served in this capacity for the 2015-2016 season.
A graduate of the University of South Florida, Watkins served as the campus’ student-run radio station director. In his position, he managed a partnership between the station and the university’s athletic department to oversee pregame events for football, men and women’s basketball as well as soccer.
Watkins recently graduated from Saint Leo University receiving his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Business. He also is a member of NACMA where he volunteers on the Strategic Communications Committee.
