Volleyball Preview - Sept. 22

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., - The Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) highlights the Volleyball upcoming competition for the week of September 22. 


Bellarmine hosts the Lipscomb Bisons this Saturday to open the ASUN Volleyball conference slate. The Knights went 1-1 last week with a win against Chattanooga to improve to 6-5 this season. 

FGCU looks to add to the win column and earn a conference play opening day victory when they host Stetson inside Alico Arena on Saturday. The Eagles are currently 3-7 heading into conference play after making a tournament appearance for the last 14 seasons. 

Jacksonville travels to Gainesville on Wednesday to compete against No. 8 Florida. On Saturday, the Dolphins kick off conference play with cross-town rival, North Florida, inside Swisher Gymnasium for the River City Rumble. 

On Tuesday, the Lipscomb Bisons will host Tennessee Tech before travelling to Louisville, KY to faceoff against Bellarmine as they look to add to the win column. The Bisons are currently second in the standings with a 6-3 overall record, good for a .667 winning percentage. 

North Florida’s lone match this week will take place Saturday night against in-town rival, Jacksonville University. The Ospreys will travel to Swisher Gymnasium with hopes of defeating the Dolphins after a 2-1 week that saw Sofia Dawson earn her second consecutive Setter of the Week honor this season. 

Queens will travel toe Asheville, NC to take on UNC Asheville Tuesday. The Royal will then head back to Charlotte where they will welcome the West Florida Argonauts for the first conference play match this season. The Royals are looking to break a three-game losing streak with a pair of wins this week. 

The Hatters will travel to Fort Myers, FL for a 6 PM ET match against FGCU this Saturday. After defeating Alabama State, the Hatters look to improve their 3-7 overall record this season. 

Coming off a pair of four-set wins agsint Central Arkansas and Texas Tech and a five-set battle with Iowa, West Florida looks to extend its winning streak to three with a road match against Queens on Saturday. Two Argonauts earned weekly award honors for their performances including Kumara Flanagain and Camryn Brooks who earned Player and Defensive Player of Week, respectivley.
