JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) has announced the weekly award winners for Cross Country, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer and Volleyball for Monday, September 21.
CROSS COUNTRY
Men's Runner of the Week: Victor Kemboi, FGCU
Kemboi placed 13th out of 221 competitors at the FSU Pre-Regional, clocking in an 8k time of 24:59.2. Kemboi helped FGCU to a third-place team finish.
Men's Freshman of the Week: Madison Carty, Jacksonville
Carty checked in the second-fastest time for Jacksonville at the FSU Pre-Regional, completing the event with a time of 27:33.8.
Women's Runner of the Week: Alise Petrova, FGCU
Petrova set the pace for the Eagles at the FSU Pre-Regional, placing 17th overall out of 247 finishers. Petrova led FGCU to a sixth-place team finish after clocking in a 6k time of 22:04.2.
Women's Freshman of the Week: Rhyen Foley, FGCU
Foley trailed closely behind Petrova as she finished 29th at the FSU Pre-Regional with a mark of 22:27.5, the sixth-fastest time recorded by a freshman in the event.
MEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week: Mark Romano, North Florida
Mark Romano was named Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. He recorded his second career brace in North Florida's 3-1 win against North Florida. Romano leads the team with four goals this season, all of which came in conference opponents.
Defensive Player of the Week: Javier Brown, FGCU
Brown was named Defensive Player of the Week. Brown anchored a backline for the Eagles that allowed no goals against Incarnate Word and just one goal in FGCU's 3-1 victory against Houston Christian.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Alex Kara, Lipscomb
Alex Kara earned Goalkeeper of the Week after posting a 1-0 shutout against Jacksonville. Kara recorded three saves against the Dolphins to improve the Bisons to 2-1-0 in conference play.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week: Katie Paulakonis, Bellarmine
Katie Paulakonis was named Player of the Week. She recorded three goals in the Knights two-win week against Morehead State and Marshall. She notched seven shots on goal, five of which were against Morehead State.
Defensive Player of the Week: Millie Urquhart, Jacksonville
Millir Urquhart was named Defensive Player of the Week. She lead a Jacksonville defense that held Warner to just five shorts, none of which were on goal. The Dolphins recorded a 6-0 shutout win.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Clare Boesel, Stetson
Clare Boesel was named Goalkeeper of the Week. She faced 13 total shots and made eight saves to help the Hatters secure a 3-0 victory against Eckerd.
VOLLEYBALL
Player of the Week: Abbie Tuyo, Jacksonville & Kumara Flanagain, West Florida
Abbie Tuyo and Kumara Flanagain were each named Player of the Week. Tuyo recorded 48 kills, (4.36 per set) over three matches while hitting .286. Flanagain notched 39 kills and 42.5 points across 13 sets in the Argonauts matches against Texas Tech, Central Arkansas and Iowa.
Defensive Player of the Week: Camryn Brooks, West Florida
Camryn Brooks was named Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring a back row for the Argonuats with 57 digs. In West Florida's five-set match against Iowa, Brooks recorded 28 digs before adding another 17 to her weekly total in the 3-1 victory against Texas Tech.
Setter of the Week: Sofia Dawson, North Florida
Sofia Dawson earned the Setter of the Week honor. She recorded 35 or more assists in the Ospreys' three matches this week. In UNF's 3-0 sweep of Fordham, she recorded 36 assists with just one error. For the week, Dawson averaged 11.27 assists per set.
Freshman of the Week: Ana Nastase, Jacksonville
Ana Nastase was named Freshman of the Week. Across three matches, she recorded 55 assists, 25 digs, 14 kills, three blocks and nine aces.
