JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) has announced the weekly award winners for Cross Country, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer and Volleyball for Monday, September 14.
CROSS COUNTRY
Men's Runner of the Week: Alejandro Romagosa, North Florida
Romagosa clocked a time of 24:47.5 to earn a third-place finish in the Men's 8K at the Queen City Invite on Sept. 11 as he led North Florida to a runner-up team finish in a 25-team field.
Men's Freshman of the Week: Oliver Dempsey, North Florida
Dempsey earned a 19th-place finish at the Queen City Invite with a personal-best 8K time of 25:26.7, assisting the Ospreys to a second-place team finish.
Women's Runner of the Week & Freshman of the Week: Viktoria Kamml, North Florida
Kamml made her collegiate debut with a time of 18:05.4 to earn a 13th-place finish in the Women’s 5K at the Queen City Invite on Sept. 11. Kamml led North Florida to a fourth-place team finish in a 29-team field.
MEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week: Mark Romano, North Florida
Mark Romano was named Player of the Week after helping lead North Florida to a 2-0 record on the week to improve to 4-2-1 on the season. Romano posted the game-winning goal against conference opponent FGCU to lead the Ospreys to a 2-1 win against the Eagles. His goal marked the sixth-career goal, and the first time UNF has won in Fort Myers since 2016.
Defensive Player of the Week: Rafa Rios, North Florida
Rafa Rios earned the Defensive Player of the Week accolade. He anchored an Osprey backline that allowed just one shot on goal in UNF's shutout victory against Coastal Carolina. The victory marked the second shutout of the season for North Florida.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Merrick Cook, Central Arkansas
Merrick Cook posted a shutout win against conference opponent, Lipscomb to earn Goalkeeper of the Week. The Bears earned the victory after Cook made three saves, two in the 80th and 88th minutes to hold onto the 1-0 lead.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Player of the Week: Sarah Greiner, FGCU
Sarah Greiner was named Player of the Week after notching a goal in the Eagles' 2-0 victory against High Point on Friday. She currently leads FGCU with a team-high three goals this season.
Defensive Player of the Week: Lily Borders, FGCU
Lily Borders helped anchor a backline that allowed just two shots on goal in FGCU's home win against High Point. The junior defender scored the game winner in the 10th minute to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Karla Guzman-Ortiz, West Florida
Karla Guzman Ortiz recorded her second shutout victory as an Argo agaisnt Southeastern Louisianna to be named Goalkeeper of the Week. She recorded one save during her 90 minutes in the net to advance West Florida to 4-0 on the season.
VOLLEYBALL
Player of the Week: Emma Norris, Queens
Emma Norris recorded 54 kills, 59 points, 10 blocks and a .353 hitting percentage to earn the Player of the Week honor. She helped lead the Royals to a 3-1 record that saw wins against Chattanooga, Buffalo and Presbyterian.
Defensive Player of the Week: Yarimar Francis Garay, North Florida
Yarimar Francis Garay was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading the ASUN in blocks for the week with 16. She averaged 1.33 blocks per set while helping North Florida to a 2-1 record on the weeek.
Setter of the Week: Sofia Dawson, North Florida
Sofia Dawson earned Setter of the Week after leading recording 127 assists and 10.58 assists per set. She posted 43,42 and 42 assists in three consecutive games.
Freshman of the Week: Mady Yaden, Bellarmine
Mady Yaden was named Freshman of the Week. She notched 31 kills, 4.43 kills per set, five blocks and four digs. She led the Knights in kills in both matches includiing 18 kills and a .469 hitting percentage in Bellarmine's sweep of Butler.
