Sugar Bears Dominate at Home, Top Lions in Four

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas Sugar Bears protected their home court Wednesday night, earning a 3–1 victory (25–17, 25–23, 18–25, 25–16) over the North Alabama Lions inside the Prince Center. With the win, UCA improved to 6–7 overall and 3–0 in ASUN play.

The Sugar Bears came out firing, hitting .517 in the opening set and carrying that momentum into a tight second frame to grab a 2–0 lead. After North Alabama responded with a strong third set, UCA regrouped and closed the match convincingly by dominating the fourth, hitting .538 as a team.

Outside hitter Laci Bohannan led the way with 19 kills on a blistering .500 hitting percentage, adding seven digs and two blocks for a match-high 21 points. Gabby Tuiaana provided a spark offensively with 11 kills and two service aces, while McKinzee Haas was nearly unstoppable at the net, tallying seven kills on a .583 clip. Setter Caylan Koons kept the offense balanced with 38 assists and five digs, while Alexis McDaniel anchored the defense with 16 digs.

As a team, UCA hit .351 for the match with 11 service aces, compared to just 7 for the Lions.

Sugar Bears are on the road this weekend taking on North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida on October 4th at 12 p.m.
