FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Lipscomb Bisons earned their fourth Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Soccer Championship after a 1-0 victory against the EKU Colonels.
Lipscomb jumped ahead early with a goal from Tatum Ahlemeyer in the seventh minute of action. The freshman placed the shot in the top right of the goal outside the reach of the Colonels' keeper Marah Krick. Lipscomb kept up its first-half pressure and had tallied nine shots, with four on goal, 20 minutes into the contest. In the 24th minute, EKU's Ella Grode put the Colonels' third shot of the game on frame which led to the first save for Lipscomb's All-Freshman Team goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar. At the half, the Bisons had outshot their opponent by a total of 15 to three.
The Colonels started the second half with an increased pressure on the Lipscomb defense. As a result, EKU was able to record a shot by Grode that was saved again by Cesar. In the 67th minute, Lipscomb had its fifth corner kick of the match but was turned away by Krick's first save. The teams played back and forth for the remainder of the half with the Colonels unable to find an equalizer and the Bisons holding on to capture the conference title.
Lipscomb has earned the league's automatic qualifier and represents the ASUN in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The Bisons await the selection show on Monday, Nov. 11, to see who they face in the first round.
