ASUN Conference Announces 2023 Annual Awards; Lipscomb Wins Academic Trophy

ATLANTA - With the 2022-23 ASUN Conference academic year concluded, the league announced its annual accomplishments and honors during a ceremony held Thursday on the campus of Bellarmine University hosted by the ASUN's Jordan Griffitt. The awards were voted on and selected by various groups including the Faculty Athletic Representatives, Senior Woman Administrators and conference office staff.

Griffitt announced FGCU's Michael Miller as the recipient of the Stellar Service Award. The ASUN Beam Award, created in the 2018-19 academic year and presented to a school program when it breaks new ground in ASUN achievement, was earned by FGCU's Brian Ellis (Baseball), EKU Outdoor Track & Field (2022) and Kennesaw State Indoor Track & Field (2022). The league office also recognized Liberty's Calli Doan and Lipscomb's Noah Gulden as the Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, respectively, while Codey Bates (Austin Peay) and Elena Djokovic (Stetson) were the recipients of the postgraduate scholarships.

With a conference-best 88.43% of student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA in the 2022-23 academic year, Lipscomb earned its eighth ASUN Conference Academic Champion Trophy in program history. In the 23rd year of the ASUN Honor Roll, the 2022-23 season marked the sixth time in the last seven countable seasons in which 70% or more of student-athletes collected Honor Roll status with 71.82% hitting the mark. Eight ASUN institutions registered at least 70% of their student-athletes on the Honor Roll with six boasting over 75% highlighted by four at over 80%. The Bisons' eight academic titles are the second-most in league history (Belmont) and the most by any current member. Lipscomb finished ahead of North Florida (86.38%) and Bellarmine (82.82%) on the ASUN Honor Roll.

Across all sports, 13 reached at least 75% for Honor Roll recognition with Beach Volleyball (92.42%) and Volleyball (90.48%) coming in at over 90%. In total, 3,204 ASUN Conference student-athletes registered at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2022-23 academic year.
