ATLANTA - Stetson claimed the ASUN Conference Beach Volleyball Pair of the Year accolade as Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike earned the honor, voted on by the league's head coaches, announced on Thursday by the conference office. North Florida's Head Coach Doug Wright was selected by his peers as the Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to tie a program record for wins in a single season at 21 while the Ospreys' Madison Espy earned Freshman of the Year honors.
The Stetson duo of Ferraris and Namike earned the program's seventh Pair of the Year accolade after recording a 23-8 overall record, including 20-5 (.800) on Court 2. Ferraris and Namike were one of two pairs for the Hatters to reach 20 wins on the year while also recording eight wins against Top 20 opponents. The pair also helped Stetson to a 5-1 showing against ASUN opponents.
Espy became the first Osprey in program history to earn the Freshman of the Year honor. The Florida native went 15-3 at the second flight, 7-0 at the third flight and 2-0 at the fourth flight. She started the year off winning 15 straight matches, the most consecutive wins to start a UNF career in program history. Espy defeated ranked pairs including No. 12 FAU, No. 15 Stetson, No. 17 Pepperdine, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 17 Stetson and No. 13 FIU, helping UNF break into the national rankings for the fourth time while ranked 13th in the country in the Top NCAA Pairs Ranking.
After leading UNF to 21 victories on the season, Wright garnered the Coach of the Year honor. He became the sixth coach in North Florida program history to earn the accolade after guiding his team to its 12th-consecutive appearance in the ASUN Championship. The Ospreys earned wins over three top-20 teams this season in No. 17 Stetson, No. 20 Coastal Carolina and No. 19 Pepperdine while also taking down four different conference squads.
