2023 Championship | Top Performances
ATLANTA - With the 18th year of ASUN Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field in the books, we take a look back at the highlights and accomplishments from the 11 league squads during the 2022-23 season. Liberty captured its fourth league title at the 2023 ASUN Championship while Kennesaw State earned runner-up and Lipscomb finished in third.
The Flames collected 171 points to take home the trophy as the Owls finished second with 155 points. Liberty's Lance Bingham earned the Coach of the Year honor after leading his team to a first-place finish while the Flames' Calli Doan was named both the Championship Most Valuable Performer and the Most Outstanding Track Performer. Doan scored a meet-high 28 points, claiming the Women's 3000-Meter title and setting a new conference Indoor Championship record in the event. Doan also took first place in the 5000-Meter and earned runner-up in the Mile.
Meredith Engle was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer after scoring 17.5 points, winning the Pentathlon, placing fourth in the Triple Jump, tying for sixth in the High Jump and placing 10th in the Shot Put. Newcomer Austin Peay claimed the Most Outstanding Freshman Performer with Amani Sharif winning the Long Jump title with a 5.89m leap.
Kennesaw State's Hendrick qualified for the NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championship in the 800m. Hendrick became the conference's first three-time First Team All-American in the 800m after placing fifth in the event at the National Championship with a time of 2:03.21.

Austin Peay
- The Governors competed in their first season of Indoor as an ASUN Conference member and made a mark by finishing fourth as a team at the championship while setting three new championship records
- Kenisha Phillps claimed the 200m and the 400m titles and set new ASUN Championship times in each event at 23.68 and 52.99, respectively
- APSU's Karlijn Schouten won the Pole Vault with a new record of 4.21m; Amani Sharif also won the Long Jump (5.89m) and the Govs won the 4x400 Relay (3:44.47)
Bellarmine
- The Knights competed in their third season of Indoor as a Division I Track & Field program; the team finished ninth at the conference championship
- Chloe Freilinger and Katrina Famarute earned podium finishes in the 400m for silver (55.59) and bronze (55.66), respectively
- BU also ran a 3:49.25 in the 4x400 Relay to finish fifth in the event at the championship
Central Arkansas
- In its second season in the league, Central Arkansas finished sixth as a team at the conference championship where Kendelle McCoy won the gold medal in the 60m Dash
- McCoy became the first 60m gold medalist at the ASUN Championship in UCA program history; Kamaria Russell also earned a top-three finish for the Bears as she closed a 24.35 in the 200m to finish third
- On Dec. 14, Ayana Harris and Grace Deshotels earned Track Athlete of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively after strong performances at the Crimson & Gold Invitational
Eastern Kentucky
- The Colonels finished eighth as a team with 28 points at the ASUN Championship
- Joy Scott earned a top-five finish in the 60m Dash at the championship, posting a time of 7.68, just missing the podium by 0.07 of a second
- Jone Zabaleta-Larranaga posted a 9:32.01 in the 3,000m to earn a fourth-place finish for EKU
Jacksonville
- The Dolphins earned 46 points at the ASUN Championship for a fifth-place finish as a team and captured medals in the 800m, High Jump and Shot Put
- JAX's Emma Sullivan was able to improve upon her second-place 800m finish from the 2022 ASUN Championship by finishing first in 2:06.75
- Kristi Snyman posted a winning mark of 1.85m in the High Jump at the championship; the mark finished in the top-15 in the NCAA and set a new ASUN Championship record
Jacksonville State
- At the ASUN Championship, Jacksonville State placed 11th as a team and was highlighted by Lennon Ibsen's sixth-place finish in the Pole Vault with a 3.72m mark
- Ibsen was named the Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 18 after taking home first in the Pole Vault at the UAB Vulcan Invite with a 3.70m clearance
- Elsa Chan posted a top-15 finish in the 5,000m with a time of 17:36.17 (14th) and a top-25 finish in the 3,000m with a time of 10:13.97 (25th)
Kennesaw State
- Sarah Hendrick had a stellar season as she finished the season as a First-Team All-American in the 800m; she became the first three-time First-Team All-American in the 800m in ASUN history
- The Owls finished second at the ASUN Championship with 155 points and earned a total of 15 medals including two golds in the Mile and Distance Medley Relay
- Hendrick clocked a winning time of 4:41.99 in the Mile while the DMR team of Hendrick, Natalie Cummings, Britney Chatfield and Caroline Timm clocked a winning time of 11:36.67
Liberty
- Calli Doan had an impressive showing at the 2023 Championship as she earned the Most Valuable Performer award after collecting event wins in the 3,000m and 5,000m
- Doan set a new Championship record in the 3,000m with her winning time of 9:24.67
- As a team, Liberty claimed a total of six event wins at the conference championship as Makenzy Mizera (Triple Jump), Paola Bueno (Weight Throw) and Megan Mann (Shot Put), Meredith Engle (Pentathlon) joined Doan with gold medals
Lipscomb
- The Bisons had a strong showing at the 2023 ASUN Championship as they finished third with 79 points thanks to second-place finishes in the 800m, 3,000m and Long Jump
- Lydia Miller earned two podium finishes in the Mile (bronze) and 3,000m (silver), clocking times of 4:44.02 and 9:24.60, respectively
- In the 3,000m Lipscomb had four of the top-six finishes in Miller, Liza Corso (9:26.73), Mackenzie Barnett (9:33.42) and Colbi Borland (9:38.28)
North Florida
- UNF earned 10.5 points to finish 10th as a team at the ASUN Championship and earned one podium finish
- Kaley Petrosky had a personal-best mark in the High Jump as she earned a bronze medal in the event with a mark of 1.63m
- The DMR team of Emma Jane Schlageter, Celine D'Anna, Ella Chandler and Erica Fisher turned in a time of 12:04.38 to finish fourth
Queens
- The Royals competed in their first season of Indoor as a Division I Track & Field program; the team finished seventh at the conference championship
- Melanie Welsing set a new ASUN championship record in the 60m Hurdles during the Pentathlon as she clocked an 8.52 finish
- Welsing captured the first two podium finishes for Queens at the championship taking home silver in the Pentathlon (3931) and gold in the 60m Hurdles (8.32)
