FLORENCE, Ala. - North Alabama advanced to the Atlantic Sun Women's Soccer Championship semifinals for the first time since 2018 after defeating eighth-seeded Queens.
The first 45 minutes ended in a scoreless endeavor with North Alabama outshooting Queens 8-1. Sophia Muetterties of Queens put the first shot on target for either team in the seventh minute. UNA's Alice Bussey sent one to the bottom left corner before the Royals’ keeper Erica Turner came up with her first of four saves in the half.
The Lions struck first in the 71st minute as Kellie Hovis scored in the top right off the assist from Olivia Anderson and Olivia Heinhert. Hovis earned her first collegiate goal of the season in game-winning fashion. The Royals had four corner kicks in the contest compared to 10 by the Lions. Turner finished the game with six saves while UNA's Adriana Wright collected her 12th clean sheet which is tied for the most in the NCAA.
North Alabama’s 1-0 victory advances the team to the ASUN Championship Semifinals to take the pitch against top-seeded Lipscomb on Thursday at 2 PM CT in the Music City.
