ATLANTA - Lipscomb's Kelli Beiler, highlighted the postseason honors after she garnered the Player of the Year accolade. Central Arkansas and North Alabama scooped up a pair of superlative honors apiece, as UCA's Kelly Van Gundy earned Midfielder of the Year while UNA's Adriana Wright collected Goalkeeper of the Year. The Bisons took home the remainder of the awards as Logan McFadden was named Defensive Player of the Year and Bella Carapazza was selected as Freshman of the Year. Kevin O'Brien received the Coach of the Year recognition following the Bisons' fourth ASUN Regular Season Championship.
Beiler's Player of the Year honor marks the fourth time in school history that a Bison has received the award. While starting and appearing in 18 matches, she recorded conference highs in shots (57), shots on goal (26), goals (13), points (27) and game-winning goals (6). The Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa., native has earned several accolades throughout the 2023 season such as a selection as a 2023 United Soccer Coaches Forward to Watch, two ASUN Player of the Week titles, and a ranking of #74 on the 2023 United Soccer Coaches Top-100 College Players mid-season list.
Logan McFadden anchored the Bisons' back line with starts in all 19 of the squad's matches so far. She helped Lipscomb hold opposing teams to just 16 goals over the season as well as recording 10 matches holding oppents to 10 total shots. McFadden stepped into scoring territory when necessary and has recorded five shots, landing four of them on-target, and has earned two goals for the Bisons to help the squad record 38 goals so far this season.
Van Gundy aided in Central Arkansas' defensive efforts with the team holding all 11 ASUN opponents to one or fewer goals, including five conference shutouts. Playing both sides of the ball, she was largely responsible for the Bears' goal differential in ASUN matches which ranks second in the conference. The Texas native was consistently ranked in the top two in every major offensive category in ASUN games: third in game-winning goals (4), tied for second in goals (4) tied for first in shots on goal (26), tied for third in assists (4), third in points (18).
Wright earned a shutout in over half of her games played in a North Alabama uniform. Wright leads the NCAA in both shutouts (10) and goalkeeper minutes (1620:00), while leading the ASUN in goals-against average (0.611) and is second in save percentage (0.843). The Alabama native set a UNA record for the most shutouts (10) in a season. During the 2023 campaign, she helped set the North Alabama Division I record for consecutive scoreless minutes in goal (445).
Carapazza has made a splash in the first year of her collegiate career, appearing in all 19 of Lipscomb's matches so far this season and earning 11 starts. The Tarpon Springs, Fla. native has recorded 23 total shots this season, the fifth-highest total shot count on the squad and the highest of the Bisons' freshmen. Twelve of her shots this season have been on target for a .552 shot-on-goal percentage.
O'Brien was tabbed the Coach of the Year in the ASUN for the fourth time in his career following his initial nod in the 2016 season. He helped the Bisons earn a 14-4-1 record, setting a new program record for wins in the regular season and sitting just one win behind the program record for total wins in a season (15 wins, set in 2018 and 2021). O'Brien's squad combined for 38 total goals this season while only allowing just 16 goals across all of their opponents. The Bisons were only out-shot three times this season and in turn, held their opponents to ten shots or less in ten matches.
