ATLANTA, Ga. - Bellarmine's CJ Fleming was tabbed the ASUN Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Tuesday by the league office. Fleming is joined by seven other Men's Basketball student-athletes on the All-Academic Team.
Fleming, who earned his first All-Academic selection, owns a 4.00 GPA as he pursues his master's in Education. He becomes the first ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Bellarmine in any sport and the third Knight selected to the Men's Basketball All-Academic Team after both Juston Betz and Ethan Claycomb earned the distinction last season. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native ranks sixth in the ASUN overall this season for scoring at 15.2 points per game while his 18.4 scoring average during conference play ranks third in the ASUN. He ranks second in the league for free-throw percentage (89.6) and minutes per game (34.6) while coming in fourth for total points scored (455). The fifth-year senior helped BU to the West Division's second seed and a first-round bye in the ASUN Championship.
The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the ASUN's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
