Women's @ASUNSoccer All-Conference Announced; Lipscomb's Beiler Chosen as Player of the Year

2022 ASUN Conference Women's Soccer Postseason Honors and Awards

ATLANTA – Lipscomb's Kelli Beiler, who was named ASUN Conference Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year earlier Wednesday, highlighted the postseason honors after she also garnered the Player of the Year accolade, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches. FGCU scooped up a pair of superlative honors apiece, as Leah Scarpelli earned Defensive Player of the Year and Erika Zschuppe collected Freshman of the Year. Liberty saw Goalkeeper of the Year go to  Ainsley Leja, as well as Lang Wedemeyer receiving the Unanimous Coach of the Year recognition following his team's first ASUN regular-season title in 2022.

Beiler is the third Bison in school history to receive Player of the Year. She started 15 of the 16 matches she played in for Lipscomb this season for a total of 1,132 minutes on the pitch. The Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa., native delivered crucial tackles to interrupt the Bisons' opponents and emerged as the top goal scorer in the conference. Beiler recorded 11 goals over the course of the regular season, including a set of back-to-back braces against Bellarmine and North Florida in early October.

Scarpelli anchored an Eagle defense that has allowed just .60 goals per ASUN match this season while allowing just 4.6 shots-on-goal per contest. She has also contributed on the offensive end with four goals and a team-leading six assists. Additionally, the Brick, N.J., native has averaged 1.22 points per outing in ASUN matchups, which is third-most in the league.

Leja has manned the net for Liberty, who heads into action on Thursday as the top seed in the ASUN Championship, and currently sits third in the ASUN in goals-against average (0.62). She is also third in save percentage at .853, atop the conference in shutouts (9) and is currently tied for 11th in the nation for clean sheets. Six of her shutouts have come in ASUN play, and Leja is currently fifth in program history for shutouts in a single season.

Zschuppe has seven points on two goals and three assists in her freshman season with FGCU. She has started 15 matches, played 1,122 minutes and is taking 3.00 shots per match in ASUN contests from the mid-field position. She helped the FGCU defense to allow just 0.60 goals per match against league competition.

Wedemeyer was tabbed the Coach of the Year in the ASUN for the second time in his career following his initial nod in the 2021 Spring season. He helped the Flames to a 12-3-3 record (8-0-2 ASUN) and their first regular-season title in 2022. Liberty heads into the ASUN Championship with its program-record unbeaten streak at 10 matches and is first in goals scored during conference play (23) and shutouts with seven (11 overall).
