ATLANTA, Ga. - Conference play kicked off for eight of our nine ASUN teams squaring off against each other. North Florida finished off its non-conference schedule with a 4-0 shutout of South Carolina State.
With less than 50 days until the start of the ASUN Men's Soccer Championship, conference play gets started Saturday. Six teams are in action as Liberty travels to North Florida. The Stetson Hatters host the NJIT Highlanders, and the reigning conference champion Lipscomb Bisons welcome Jacksonville to Nashville.
Stetson & NJIT kicked things off as the Highlanders emerged victorious in a 2-0 affair. Sophomore Fiona Wright scored in the 41st minute for the Highlanders off of a free-kick. Three minutes later, Alexis Magruder doubled their lead as she fired a shot across the box to the left side of the net.
The Liberty Flames traveled to Jacksonville and left with a dub in a defensive match in which both teams totaled 11 shots. Gabrielle Farrell and Kasey Jamieson found the back of the net in the 2nd half to give the Flames a 2-0 win putting Liberty over .500 for the first time this season.
Louise Lillback went beast mode last night and put FGCU on her back scoring 2 goals and recording an assist to Evdokia Popadinova in a 3-1 road victory over North Alabama. A scoreless match at the half, the Eagles went on the offensive in the 2nd half outshooting the Lions 12-7.
A battle between two ASUN tournament teams from a year ago, Kennesaw State got on the board first as Becky Contreras scored on a goal from inside the box in the 65th minute. Kaitlin Echols responded in the 73rd minute as Olivia Doak put the Bisons up for good in Lipscomb's first home victory on the season.
