ASUN Beam Report - Oct. 4

ATLANTA, Ga. - Already a week into conference play, and the Liberty Flames and Kennesaw State Owls each sit atop the standings going undefeated in the opening week.

Liberty defended its home court last Tuesday by sweeping FGCU, the defending ASUN Champions. Amelia Johnson scored a match-high 15 kills and 11 digs for the double-double on her way to being named Volleyball Player of the Week. This match turned out to be a sign of things to come as the Flames ended their three-match homestand over the weekend with sweeps of two other ASUN opponents and remain unbeaten in league play. Liberty now has a home winning streak of 12 matches dating back to 2018.

Kennesaw State is the other ASUN team yet to taste defeat in conference play. Quin Sutphin tallied 12 kills to lead the Owls offensively in their sweep of North Florida. This was Sutphin's fourth double-digit kill match in the last five played by KSU. The team's defensive effort was led by Karlee Groover and Shelby Dennis who each recorded 14 digs.

Lipscomb and Stetson met in DeLand and battle it out in a five-set thriller. The Bisons came from behind in the match to get their first ASUN victory of the season. After being down 16-19 in the fourth set, Lipscomb went on a 7-3 run to tie the set. Bree Thompson then finished things off with four straight kills. With the fifth set knotted at 8, the Bisons pulled out another run and went 6-2 to close things out highlighted by three kills from Maddie Phillips.
