Calvo Barcelo & Muscheites Highlight 2018 @ASUNTennis Postseason Awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The ASUN Conference announced the Men's Tennis Postseason Awards on Thursday night at the 2018 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship awards banquet. Kennesaw State's Fermin Calvo Barcelo was tabbed the ASUN Player of the Year, while Stetson's Malik Bhatnagar picked up the ASUN Freshman of the Year honor.
North Florida's Lasse Muscheites earned recognition as the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year. UNF's Head Coach Matt Lucas collected his first ASUN Coach of the Year after guiding the Ospreys to an undefeated conference record in his debut season.
ASUN Men's Tennis Superlative Awards
Fermin Calvo Barcelo, Kennesaw State: The junior earns the first-ever ASUN Player of the Year award for the Owls in program history. Calvo Barcelo posted a perfect 6-0 record at No. 1 singles in conference play and is 14-4 overall.
Lasse Muscheites, North Florida: The three-time All-Academic selection earns UNF's first ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor since 2013. Muscheites owns a 3.71 cumulative GPA as a Business Management/Marketing major, in addition to being named to the 2018 ASUN All-Conference First Team. He finished the regular season with a 10-7 overall record at No. 1/2 and 5-1 in ASUN play.
Malik Bhatnagar, Stetson: Playing mostly at No. 1 singles in his first year with the Hatters, Bhatnagar earned the ASUN Freshman of the Year honors following a 16-3 campaign. In ASUN action, the freshman finished 4-2 and in doubles held a 13-2 record alongside teammate Agnus Bradshaw in the No. 1 spot.
Matt Lucas, North Florida: Guiding the Ospreys to a 6-0 record in ASUN play, UNF's Matt Lucas collects his first-ever ASUN Coach of the Year. North Florida enters the ASUN Championship with a 11-9 overall record and their second-straight regular season title.
The 2018 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship begins on Friday, Apr. 20th on the campus of North Florida at 9 AM ET. No. 4 Lipscomb faces No. 5 Kennesaw State, while No. 3 FGCU takes on No. 6 NJIT at 11:30 AM ET. No. 1 North Florida and No. 2 Stetson received first-round byes.
