ATLANTA, Ga. - This year's ASUN Women's Soccer Postseason Awards were highlighted by a trio of Lipscomb's student-athletes including Olivia Doak, Logan McFadden and Kate Mason. NJIT was represented by a strong duo as Fiona Wright claimed the Freshman of the Year honor and Ally Nick took home Coach of the Year.
Lipscomb's second-straight Player of the Year honoree, Doak established a career year behind leading the conference in assists with nine and placing in the top five in both points (23) and goals (7). A native of Tennessee, the 2016 ASUN Freshman of the Year helped to lead the Bisons to their first-ever outright ASUN Regular Season title and claimed the top overall seed for the ASUN Championship.
Logan McFadden becomes the first freshman to ever win Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a Lipscomb back line to allow just three goals in conference play and 14 overall throughout the season. Producing three goals of her own, the Birmingham, Ala. native started all 18 games for the season and is the first Lipscomb player to win Defensive Player of the Year since Niamh Rawlins in 2016.
The trio of Lipscomb individual winners rounds out with Kate Mason claiming the programs' first Goalkeeper of the Year since Anna Buhigas won three in a row from 2014-16. The Texas native rounded into elite form when conference season began, allowing just three goals which equated to a 0.37 GAA. Setting career-highs in every major statistical category in her second year as a starter, Mason leads her team into the ASUN Championship as the top overall seed.
Fiona Wright was named Freshman of the Year to represent the first for NJIT since joining the league a few years ago. Scoring 11 goals in her first collegiate campaign, Wright set the freshman mark for the Highlanders and is just five goals away from tying the program mark for a career. Recording seven of her goals in conference play, the Canadian product also had three games in which she scored twice including twice in ASUN action.
Head Coach Ally Nick rounds out the individual honors after leading NJIT to the best season in program history and its first appearance in the ASUN Championship. Continuing a building process that started when she first arrived to lead the team, the Highlanders set season-bests with 11 victories including five in ASUN competition. Wrapping up the second seed in the postseason, Nick looks to continue the strong play from the regular season to make the NJIT season even more historic.
The First Round of the 2018 ASUN Women's Soccer Championship kicks off Friday, October 26th. No. 3 Kennesaw State meets No. 6 North Alabama at 2 PM ET on the Highlander Sports Network. First-round action resumes later that night when No. 5 North Florida heads to Nashville to take on No. 4 FGCU for a 7 PM ET kick off on Facebook Live.
