2017 ASUN Conference Women's Golf All-Conference Awards

LakePoint, Ga. - For the fourth time in the last five ASUN Conference Women's Golf seasons, a Kennesaw State golfer took home the league's top individual accolade as Medy Thavong was named ASUN Women's Golfer of the Year, the league announced on Saturday night at the Championship Banquet.

Thavong is the fourth different Owl to earn the Player of the Year distinction after leading the team in scoring average at 73.70. She posted five top-15 finishes this season, including her first collegiate medalist honor at the Johnie Imes Invitational. She shot a career low round of 66 this season and is the highest ranked individual ASUN women's golfer in Golfstat. She is joined on the First Team All-Conference by her teammate Dulcie Sverdloff. The senior from England earns her fourth All-Conference recognition, third time as a First Team member. She ranks second on the team in scoring average at 74.60 and is tied for the team lead with six rounds at par or better. She set a new career low round score of 67 at the Johnie Imes Invitational.

FGCU's Megan Blonien joined the Owl duo on the First Team after posting a stroke average of 74.82 in 27 rounds played. She finished inside the top-20 in seven of eight tournaments . Jacksonville's Michelle Forsland averaged 74.90 strokes this season and was recognized on the First Team All-Conference. She finished with one top-10 result and two top-20 results. The final member of the First Team also comes from the River City in Megan Wilshire. She played every event for the Ospreys this season and owns a team-best 75.43 scoring average. She tallied four top-25 finishes, including three inside the top-10 in 2016-17.

The ASUN Freshman of the Year went to USC Upstate's Pan Paksonant, who becomes the first Spartan to garner the award. Paksonant led the team in scoring average at 76.09 after playing all nine events for the Spartans. She played 22 total rounds and compiled four top-10 finishes. She was joined on the All-Freshman team by Jacksonville's Forsland, FGCU's Kate Williamson, North Florida's Teresa Conroy and Paksonant's teammate Anna Chanthaphaeng.

Williamson also earned Second Team All-Conference honors where she was joined by teammate Madeline Marck-Sherk. Williamson posted two top-10 finishes, while Marck-Sherk took home her first collegiate title at the MSU Citrus Classic. Jacksonville's Megan Collins and Kennesaw State's Henriette Nielsen joined the Eagle duo on the Second Team. Paksonant and Stetson's Carolin Schart rounded out this year's Second Team All-Conference selections.

For the third time in her tenure with the Owls, Rhyll Brinsmead has been voted as ASUN Women's Golf Coach of the Year. She guided her team to eight top-10 finishes in 2016-17 and is coming off back-to-back fourth place finishes. Brinsmead and the Owls look to get back into the winner's circle at the upcoming ASUN Championship after last winning the title in 2015.
