MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference awarded the 2016 ASUN Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award to Lipscomb's Lee Solomon, announced Monday by the conference office. Solomon is joined by 12 other baseball student-athletes on the All-Academic Team. It marks the second year in a row that a Lipscomb student-athlete has been named Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Ian Martinez-McGraw earned the honor last year.
Solomon, a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio has been a breakout star this season for Lipscomb. After having just four at-bats in 2015, the second basemen was one of two players in the conference to play in 55 games. He led the league in stolen bases with 25, helping Lipscomb to a school-record 96 swipes as a team. He also placed second in the ASUN in hits (77), walks (36) and on-base percentage (.469) while batting .362, the third-best mark in the conference.
In the classroom, Solomon carries a 3.90 cumulative GPA while studying as a Law, Justice and Society major with a concentration in Social Change. He set the Lipscomb single-game record with five steals in a win against Mississippi Valley State on March 26th. He finished the regular season on a 16-game on-base streak and was a single shy of hitting for the cycle in the Bisons final game. In total, he reached base safely in 49 of Lipscomb's 55 games.
The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the ASUN's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
