Full Atlantic Sun Beach Volleyball Awards List
MACON, Ga. - Stetson's No. 1 pair of Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt were unanimously selected as the 2016 Atlantic Sun Beach Volleyball Pair of the Year as the conference announced its All-Conference and Postseason awards. Putt also unanimously earned Freshman of the Year honors, while North Florida's coaching staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year.
Strakova and Putt were honored after posting an 8-0 record in A-Sun play and going 29-2 in dual matches this season. The duo led Stetson to its second consecutive A-Sun regular season title and represents the second Stetson pair to earn Pair of the Year honors after Julie Bassett and Kaley Melville earned the honors last year. The duo won all 16 sets in conference play and were selected three times as A-Sun Pair of the Week honorees. The duo holds a 10-2 record against ranked competition including six two-set victories.
Joining them on the All-Conference team are teammates Kaylee Anderson and Emily Carroll. The No. 3 pair for the Hatters posted a 7-1 record in A-Sun play this season and went 20-8 overall in dual matches. Jacksonville's No. 2 pair of Mackenzie Swan and Cristina Finan were selected to the All-Conference team after going 9-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play. North Florida's No. 3 pair of Courtney Miller and Katarina Raicevic earned a spot after tallying a 7-1 record in conference play and 22-6 overall. The final pair to make the All-Conference squad were Mercer's Tori Penrod and Emily Krogman. They hold a 4-4 record at the No. 1 Pair and a 7-2 record at the No. 2 Pair.
Putt captured the 2016 A-Sun Freshman of the Year honor giving the Hatters their first Freshman of the Year award in program history. Putt played in the No. 1 slot for the season and finished with a perfect record in A-Sun play. Putt posted a 29-2 record overall with her only two losses coming against #2 Southern California and #10 Grand Canyon. Putt and her partner Vendy Strakova began the year on a 21-match win streak.
Joining Putt on the All-Freshman team are teammate Emily Carroll, FGCU's Elisa Anne Aldrich, and North Florida's Chaney Howard and Courtney Miller.
North Florida's coaching staff of Steve Loeswick and Samantha Dabbs earned A-Sun Beach Volleyball Coaching Staff of the Year award, after guiding the Ospreys to a 7-1 conference record and the No. 2 seed in this weekends A-Sun Championship. Loeswick and Dabbs led the team to a 20-8 overall record including a 4-0 sweep of the competition at the Carolina Classic in March. This marks the fourth yearly honor for Loeswick as he earned Coach of the Year honors in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
