Vives, Blanco Boast 2015 Top @ASunTennis Men's Honors
All-Conference Awards and Honors
MACON, Ga. – For a second year in a row, FGCU's Jordi Vives is the Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Player of the Year. FGCU's head coach CJ Weber joins Vives on the list of accolades as the Men's Tennis Coach of the Year. Stetson's Loic Blanco was voted A-Sun Men's Tennis Freshman of the Year.
Vives was dominant all year for the Eagles. The senior compiled a 17-2 record on the year, all at No. 1 singles, on his way to garnering the Player of the Year honor and unanimous First Team selection. Vives and FGCU shined in A-Sun play, going undefeated to claim the regular season crown and the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Men's Tennis Championship. In conference play, Vives was one of only three singles players to go 6-0 on the year. For doubles play, Vives recorded a record of 14-3. The team of Vives and Eduardo Alfonzo went 5-0 in conference play and earned a Second Team nod for their efforts.
Michael Beiler and Ricky Ventura join Vives on the All-Conference First Team for FGCU. Beiler finished the year with a 10-3 record for the Eagles and closed out the year on a seven-match win streak. Ventura spent time at three different courts to register a record of 13-5 with a 4-1 record at No. 2 singles.
Stetson's Blanco was instrumental to the Hatters' push into the A-Sun Championship. Blanco closed out the conference season with a 5-1 record in singles play. Splitting time at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Blanco amassed a 14-4 overall record on the year, including a 5-2 slate at No. 2. The Stetson freshman closed out his year with an 8-2 record in his last 10 matches.
No. 2 seed and host of the A-Sun Championship North Florida placed Jack Findel-Hawkins and Norbert Nemcsek on the All-Conference First Team. Findel-Hawkins was the top singles player for the Ospreys, earning five wins at No. 1 singles. Nemcsek succeeded come conference play with a 4-2 singles record. On the year, Nemcsek posted a 9-8 record on courts one through four.
Scholar-Athlete of the Year Simon Pritchard of Kennesaw State added a spot on the All-Conference First Team to his 2015 accolades. A unanimous choice, Pritchard led Kennesaw State at No. 1 singles with an 11-6 mark. Pritchard and teammate Jorge Wilton went 9-2 in 2015 in doubles play to garner Second Team doubles recognition.
In addition to his Academic All-Conference Team award, Lipscomb's Rob Mitchell took a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Mitchell was an even 10-10 this year for the Bisons, never moving from No. 1 singles.
USC Upstate's Ramon Simonetti rounds out the All-Conference First Team with an 11-10 singles record for the Spartans. Playing a majority of his matches at No. 1 singles, Simonetti led the Spartans to a 4-2 conference record. In conference play, the USC Upstate junior went 5-1 in singles play.
FGCU's head coach Weber wins the Coach of the Year after leading FGCU to the A-Sun Regular Season Championship. The Eagles finished the season with a 15-5 record and placed a conference-best three players on the All-Conference First Team.
