All-Conference Awards and Honors
MACON, Ga. – Stetson freshman Alizee Michaud finished the 2015 regular season going 15-0 in singles play on her way to earning the Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year honors. Pierre Pilote of Stetson was voted Coach of the Year to complete the sweep of the superlative awards.
Michaud did not drop a singles match during her 2015 regular season, finishing with a 15-0 record. The Stetson freshman played only at No. 1 singles for the Hatters and is the only A-Sun player to remain undefeated in the regular season with a minimum of three decisions. In A-Sun play, Michaud was one of only three players to go 6-0 in conference singles. The Orlando, Fla. native helped Stetson to a 5-1 record in A-Sun matches and to the No. 2 seed in the A-Sun Championship.
Michaud is joined by teammate Isabella Fernandez on the All-Conference First Team for the Hatters. Fernandez succeeded behind Michaud in the No. 2 singles position, going 10-3 on the year at No. 2. She added a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles. The sophomore closed out the regular season on a five-match win streak.
FGCU was the only other team to have two student-athletes on the All-Conference First Team. Johanna Sterkel was one of three athletes to be a unanimous choice for the First Team. The junior closed out 2015 with a 15-3 singles record and a perfect 6-0 in A-Sun singles play. Sterkel heads into the A-Sun Championship with an eight-match win streak. Sarah Means joins Sterkel on the First Team for FGCU. The senior earned five wins at the No. 1 position for FGCU and recorded a 3-3 record in A-Sun play.
2015 Regular Season Championship North Florida placed Michelle Valdez on the All-Conference First Team. Valdez, a unanimous decision, went 14-2 on the year, including being undefeated at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. The UNF sophomore posted a 3-2 singles record in conference play to help the Ospreys to the regular season crown. North Florida added eight student-athletes to the All-Conference Second Team, including doubles teams at each position.
Virginie Stein, 2015 Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, added a First Team appearance to her week for Kennesaw State. Stein carried an 8-7 record in 2015 at the No. 1 postion for KSU and closed out conference play with a 3-2 singles record. In doubles play, Stein teamed with Jana Hueckinghaus to compile a 7-5 record, all at No. 1 doubles. Stein has made the All-Conference First Team all four years of her collegiate career.
Lipscomb's Laura Kent finished the year strong for Lipscomb, going 4-1 in A-Sun singles matches. After the 2015 regular season, Kent posted a mark of 14-4, 14-2 at No. 3 singles. Kent was also a force in doubles play. Joined by Melissa Kromer, the duo registered a 10-6 record at No. 1 doubles.
Isabel von Stryk of USC Upstate makes the All-Conference First Team after leading the Spartans at No. 1 singles this year. The senior amassed a 14-5 overall singles record, all at No. 1. In doubles matches, von Stryk and Nona Ruppert attributed for half of USC Upstate's wins on the year.
Stetson head coach Pierre Pilote garners the A-Sun Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Hatters to a 15-4 overall record in 2015 and a 5-1 mark in A-Sun play. The Hatters improved their position in the A-Sun Championship by two spots from 2014 when they finished fourth in the standings.
