Academic All-Conference Team

MACON, Ga. – Virginie Stein of Kennesaw State was a unanimous choice on the Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference Team and claimed Scholar-Athlete of the Year with a 4.00 GPA and an 8-7 record in singles play.

The KSU senior makes the Academic All-Conference team for the third time in her collegiate career, the only A-Sun women's tennis player to do so since the award was introduced in 2012. Stein, a biochemistry major, registered an 8-7 singles record for the Owls at No. 1 and went 3-2 in A-Sun play. In doubles play, Stein held a record of 8-6 with a majority of her matches at No. 1 doubles with Jana Hueckinghaus. In the classroom, Stein holds a 4.00 GPA in biochemistry at Kennesaw State.

FGCU added a conference-best three student-athletes to the Academic All-Conference Team with Elizabeth Means, Sarah Means and Johanna Sterkel. Mellissa Kromer of Lipscomb, Marina Cunningham of North Florida, Isabel von Stryk of USC Upstate and Carolina Meregalli of Stetson round out the final spots on the team.

Many of these individuals travel to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend for the A-Sun Women's Tennis Championship. Women's matches are set to begin for the men at 9:00 a.m. ET on Friday, April 17.

The Academic All-Conference Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the A-Sun's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
