JU Claims Tenth Straight @ASunXCTF Women's Indoor Team Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In a tight race for the A-Sun Championship to start the day, Jacksonville came away from Sunday's events as the 2015 Atlantic Sun Women's Indoor Track and Field Champions. JU's Shanique Walker earned the first Most Valuable Performer award for the Dolphins since 2011.

Kree Clark of Jacksonville hit a new Championship record in the weight throw with a toss of 19.65 meters. Teammate Samantha Turner took second place with a mark of 18.12 meters.

In the women's triple jump, Jacksonville senior Shanique Walker recorded a mark of 12.25 meters to win the event for the Dolphins. Stormm Phillips finished second for JU at 12.08 meters. Jacksonville took over the team lead after the triple jump. In the mile run, it was Alessandra Valdes who had enough energy for one final kick at the end to win gold for the Ospreys with a time of 5:00.38.

Walker earned her second gold of the day after blowing by the competition in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34. Ja'Mesha Richard crossed the finish line in second with a time of 8.50.

Jacksonville continued its Sunday winning streak as Courtney Walker won the 400-meter dash at 55.61. Shadaey Campbell added a second-place finish for the Dolphins at 56.38.

USC Upstate earned its first win of the Championship after Brenicke Johnson took first place in the 60-meter dash, finishing with a mark of 7.50 anda 0.01 seconds from the conference-best mark. 

Freshman Joyce Mattagliano claimed her first A-Sun gold of her collegiate career with a win in the 800-meter run and a time of 2:10.66. UNF took second and third with Valdes (2:11.79) and Vanessa Philbert (2:11.80).

Courtney Walker collected another gold after winning the 200-meter for Jacksonville. The senior crossed the finish line with a time of 24.23. KSU's Maileka Slayton (24.78) and Alicia Whittle (24.89) grabbed silver and bronze for the Owls.

Taylor Story from Jacksonville helped Jacksonville earn its seventh event win of the 2015 Championship with a 1.70 meter leap in the high jump on her first attempt.

Lipscomb's Madi Talbert broke the A-Sun Indoor Championship record in the 5000-meter run to win the gold with a time of 16:48.27. Teammate Sally Larson claimed silver at 16:51.18, also besting the old record.

Kennesaw State women's 4x400 won the final event of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship with a time of 3:50.71. North Florida (3:53.38) and USC Upstate (3:55.88) finished second and third, respectively.

Despite finishing fourth in the 4x400, Jacksonville won the team title with a total score of 209, followed by Kennesaw State at 184. North Florida came in third with 94 points and USC Upstate (75.50) and Lipscomb (74.50) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Northern Kentucky rounded out the meet with 20 points.

Shanique Walker was the top individual from the meet, scoring 29 points. She was just one point ahead of teammate Courtney Walker. Shanique earned first place in the 60-meter hurdles and triple jump.
