Caitlin Dotson Named Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference honored Caitlin Dotson of Lipscomb University as the Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year to highlight the league’s Academic All-Conference team.
Dotson, a unanimous selection this year, is a two-time member of the All-Academic Team, boasting a
3.84 GPA with a major of biology and minors in chemistry and psychology. She leads the A-Sun with 11.62 assists per set, which ranks 13th in the NCAA, and also is top in A-Sun play with 12.05 assists per set. She was named the A-Sun Player of the Week on Oct. 8 and the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Oct. 9. Dotson achieved her 1,000th career assist this season and now totals 1,712 career assists, which ranks third in school history.
The junior from Louisville, Ky., has 1,162 assists in 2012 and also has recorded nearly half (12) of her 25 double-doubles this season. She has set career highs in assists (61), kills (6) and digs (23), along with posting 18 matches with at least 40 assists.
The A-Sun Academic All-Conference teams recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s matches.
