FGCU�s Correllus Sweeps Conference Awards
MACON, Ga. – After claiming the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Regular Season title with an undefeated record of 8-0-2, FGCU placed five student-athletes on the all-conference first and second team with junior defender KC Correllus sweeping the Player of the Year awards. Jacksonville, led by A-Sun Coach of the Year Brian Copham, produced five all-conference team members after finishing as the top seed in the upcoming A-Sun Women’s Soccer Tournament.
Correllus, an unanimous first-team selection, earned Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year h
onors after leading an Eagles defense that recorded 11 shutouts on the season, a program record, which included blank sheets in eight conference games. Joining her from FGCU with first team honors include goalkeeper Stephanie Powers and midfielder Olivia Elias. Powers lead the league in GAA (0.53), save percentage (.857) and shutouts (9), while Elias produced 10 points for the Eagles, second on the team. Defender Kathleen Hunter and forward Lindsay Haw appeared on the second team for the Eagles.
Devon Dowell, Liz Fink and Lisa Hensley represented the Dolphins on the first team after finishing the season with a 8-1-1 record. Dowell, a senior defender, guided Jacksonville to ten shutouts on the season, while Fink and Hensley added the firepower as the duo registered 21 and 22 points, respectively. Junior goalkeeper earned second team honors after posting eight shutouts with a 0.93 GAA and was joined by senior midfielder Jessica Hurtado, who added five points to the Dolphins offense in 18 games played.
Mercer, the two seed in the A-Sun Tournament, had three players earn conference honors with Kacie Hudson and Olivia Tucker on the first team and Sara Elliot tabbed on the second team. For Hudson, a senior, this marks the fourth time she has earned all-conference honors by previously being named first team in her freshman and sophomore season and second team last year.
The UNF offensive tandem of Lauren Hopfensperger and Carolina Lencina, the Freshman of the Year, were the only freshman named to the first team as the duo accumulated 20 and 17 points, respectively. Hopfensperger’s 10 goals on the season led the conference, while Lencina ranked fifth in goals (6) and sixth in assists (5).
Along with Hopfensperger and Lencina, Kennesaw State’s Alma Gardarsdottir and Jacksonville’s Courtney Conrad were unanimous choices to the All-Freshman team. Gardarsdottir also earned all-conference second team honors after producing six goals and three ass
ists for the Owls, while Conrad raked in five goals and four assists.
